DRAWBRIDGE

DrawBridge provides art programs for homeless & other vulnerable children in an environment that fosters their sense of joy, creativity
& exuberance.

Please check out the DrawBridge website at http://www.drawbridge.org/ for more information and ways you can become involved
beyond Art for Water.

The average age of a homeless person in America is nine. An estimated 44,000 children in 66,000 Bay Area families were homeless in 2005. Homeless children commonly experience loss, anger, depression, hopelessness, and isolation. These emotions have an overwhelmingly negative impact on children. Ideally, increased support would be provided during this time, but the reality is that there are few outlets for the emotional needs of children in shelters.

THE VILLAGE

The village is the Kalonga Parish, of the Mitiyanya Diocese, in Uganda, Africa. This water tank will provide clean water for approximately 1,000 children and their families.

More than 2.6 billion people – forty percent of the world’s population – lack basic sanitation facilities, and over one billion people still use unsafe drinking water sources. As a result, thousands of children die every day from water sanitation and hygiene-related diseases and many more suffer and are weakened by illness.

HELP US NAME THE WATER TANK

Most water tanks that have been donated have been named by the people who supported them. The Art for Water committee is looking for the perfect name for our tank. Think you have the perfect name for our tank? Message us your winning name at artforwater@gmail.com and you will be entered to win the grand (surprise) prize. Need not be present to win (but we hope you are!). Deadline for name submission is April 14, 2010.
